For the entirety of October, Australian Organic is running Organic Awareness Month. This has been set up and designed to spread the word about organic products.
What is the aim of the awareness month?
The primary aim is to inform people how organic produce could benefit the environment and body. Buyers are encouraged to buy at least one certified organic product, such as organic beef for their spaghetti bolognese, and see the benefits for themselves.
How will the Organic Awareness Month work?
Chef Pete Evans, an Australian Organic Ambassador and celebrity chef, will front the awareness month campaign.
"To have the opportunity to help educate Australians not only on the benefits of organic products, but also the incredible range available is why I want to be part of this exciting month," he said.
There are four main aspects of the awareness month – allowed inputs, garden and farm, organic skincare and cosmetics, and organic beverages. While the average person is aware of organic food and produce, Paul Stadhams, CEO of Australian Organic, said they are less aware of the inclusion of make-up items, textiles and so much more in the list of 14,000 registered organic products. Each of these four aspects are to be covered in detail so every aspect of the organic sector is covered.
The farmers, retailers, creators and Australian Organic ambassadors will all be encouraged to have an active role. Producers from the various sections will be highlighted on the Facebook page, and there will be question and answer events where consumers and creators can interact.
There will also be a Vote to Win style competition with cash and product prizes. Shoppers can vote for their favourite certified organic product on the Facebook page and will be in the draw to win. This is a great way to spread the word about a variety of products and get people involved.
